The DinBox GSM/GPRS is a serial V.24/RS-232 DIN-rail Quadband (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) GSM and EGSM/GPRS modem for M²M applications.

The standard DinBox GPRS modem firmware in Open AT allows the modem to be connected serially by RS-232 with a non-IP enabled serial device and to communicate with the host system by IP number and port number, using GPRS, without disturbing the transparent communication between the meter and the host. This is very useful when upgrading non-IP enabled meter or serial units to IP without having to change the existing application.

The standard Open AT application allows 3 remotely switchable working modes:

  • The CSD Data Mode offers a transparant serial communication over GSM.
  • The Socket Server Mode goes a step further. It makes it possible to set up and maintain a transparent communication between host infrastructure and serial device,meter (or industrial PC) using GPRS TCP/IP communication! The TCP/IP stack in the DinBox GPRS and the Open AT application make this happen.,
  • Finally, the 'Communication Control' Processor can monitor the whole communication process and also the status of the 4 I/O lines. I/O is possible via TTL, opto coupler or relay contact. 'Communication Control' Processor designs are 100% built according to customer applications and specifications

The DinBox GPRS SL modem is a serial V.24 RS-232/RS485 modem in a DINrail housing. The modem is DC powered and can be equipped with several metering and/or SCADA protocols. CSD GSM data, GPRS IP socket server & client modes are possible. The modem is an ideal solution for RS-232/485 interfacing to PLC, metering devices, power quality measurement equipment and others.

Basically the modem firmware allows the modem to be connected by RS-232 and/or RS-485 (2/4 wire) to 2 or more non-IP enabled (electricity) meters and to communicate however by IP number and port number using GPRS. In this way a transparent communication with the host system can be maintained!
